At the same time, it's likely that no class of products has grown up so fast. The $1.1 billion composite and PVC decking and railing industry still is in its teens. And like many teenagers, it's a gangly mix of impressive achievements and dumb errors, a body on which onlookers project a lifetime of achievement based on a scant history of actual performance.
