Has anyone tried putting up a blog directory, rather than just a site directory?
No, but I wonder if the idea as a whole is worth "investigating." I, myself, wouldn't be interested, but I wonder if people do want such service.

Whats the difference between a blog vs. blog directory?

There are quite a few already but that doesn't mean another one wouldn't work. Bloggers are notorious famewhores so there would probably be support for a new directory. Smile

If I'm reading her right, Paula is talking about a directory where people would list their blogs, not a blog that somehow is a directory. Essentially, that's what blogs were in the beginning, links to sites the author found entertaining. Now they're more often journals.
There are a lots succesful blog directories but not with the aim to build a directory, rather blog chains, resources, and obviously $money$. still good ones exist in shade.

Some good ones:

blogarama
blogwise
Search 4 Blogs
Best Blogs in Asia
Diarist.Net
Globe of Blogs
Blog Street
EatonWeb
Blog Search Engine
Truth Laid Bear
Blog Universe
Open Weblog Directory
boingboing
Weblog Directory
Finding Blog Web Directory
i think paula was asking abt setting up a blog link directory, rather than listing on a blog directory, Gurpartap.

i have some blog link directory software, but havent installed it yet (the affiliate stuff is eating all my time...)

i think you can try phplinkdirectory. i heard some positive stuff abt it.

monetization potential is abt $200-500 per mth passively once you've built up critical mass.

you need to niche it though, maybe dog lovers, cooking enthusiast etc, to make it 'sticky';
Thanks for the list, Gurpartap. With all the emphasis on blogging as a traffic builder I'm exploring what potential it might have for me. There are many directories and I appreciate this list. It's a good starting point and saved me some time.
I'm also looking for blogging directory, blog and direcotry in a single instense. please give me some sites where I can find scripts(free ones please)
Wow i've heard of a directory for just blogs. I am pretty sure normal directories have catergories for blogs correct?
