You can also draw trackbacks to your own site using an external blog. Name the blog using something similar to or compatible with the content of your site. It may improve your main site's PR.

Your external blog can also address topics that influence the use of, or explore the science of, the products you sell. It works quiet well with skin care and cosmetics and I don't see why it couldn't work with electronics or other products.

Thanks for all the advice, I have a much better idea of the options now. The external blog would make it very easy to include photos and links to video clips on youtube etc. I will let you know how we get on.

External blogs usually keep the main page a bit 'cleaner' looking as well but I have one page with blogger built right into the main page and it acts as a constant news update so there are definitely good ways to embed it straight in as well. Having an external blog is probably the easier option however.
