I'm an Amazon Affiliate, but I haven't really worked to take advantage of it to the fullest extent. It really does depend on your niche....if you're running a book review site and linking to every book, then there's more potential than other sites might have.

There are so many categories with Amazon that you needn't rely on books alone. An Associate Store can be "stocked" with anything from skin care and home spa products to electronics!

I rather like being an amazon affiliate. I only list books and dvd's that are directly relevant to the main subject of my blog I can customise my widgets and I feel it add to the interest of my blog. It will never make me a millionaire, but that wasn't my reason for doing it.

I agree with you on the intention for my blog. And that would be the kind of use I would do for Amazon if I sign as affiliate. Do you get people buying on Amazon from your site? Have you made any kind of money with it?

I don't get much custom directly from the blog, but there is some. I have reguar blog readers who comment on the books and dvd's shown and it adds interest to the blog. My family and friends buy through my link, my daughter is at university so a number of her friends buy through my link too.

I run an arts site which regularly reviews books and CDs so Amazon is a perfect fit for linking to the items. If people are interested then it's quite possible that they will buy straight from the site which works out for me and the visitor. I just haven't developed the traffic well enough yet to fully take advantage of it.

I have made about $10 in 6 months with amazon associates on http://badkungfu.net, a site that currently gets about 2,000-4,000 views a month...

oh, I'm also hoping for this site: http://thecryingoflot49.com to make money with amazon associates, though it's very much a niche site ;-)
I've only owned it a week, and no sales to report as of yet...

I think business cards would be a great idea actually. I can see leaving them lying around places or tacking them up on boards at different places. You just never know when someone might just check it out.
