NameCheap not that Cheap: Price Increase - zach - 10-11-2007 Just want to let everyone know that NameCheap will be raising their prices. The below statement was sent by namecheap: ------------------------------------------------ Namecheap.com Notification of Slight Price Increase to Our Current Rates ------------------------------------------------- Dear Zach, In April 2007, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved certain domain registries to increase their prices. Domain registries are the private companies which manage the registration, technical operations, and control the allocation policies of the TLD's for which they are responsible. Domain registries VeriSign(.com, .net tld's), Afilias(.info tld), Neulevel (.biz tld)and Public Interest Registry(.org tld)applied for and received price increases and have announced they will be raising their wholesale prices to all registrars including us. In light of that decision, NameCheap.com will be adjusting its pricing on Sunday, October 14, 2007 as follows: .com domain renewals, transfers and new registrations: Old pricing $8.88, new pricing $9.29 per year .net domain renewals, transfers and new registrations: Old pricing $8.88, new pricing $9.29 per year .org domain renewals, transfers and new registrations: Old pricing $8.88, new pricing $9.29 per year .info domain renewals, transfers and new registrations: Old pricing $8.88, new pricing $9.29 per year .biz domain renewals, transfers and new registrations: Old pricing $8.88, new pricing $9.29 per year Historically, NameCheap.com has always been averse to adjusting its prices. As these cost increases are being dictated and charged to us by the registries, we are obligated to comply. Please rest assured that NameCheap.com will continue to strive to offer the most responsive level of customer service 24x7, and maintain the high level of services which has earned us your business. On behalf of everyone at NameCheap.com, please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation for the opportunity to continue to serve you as a valued NameCheap.com client. All other registrars will raise the price NameCheap not that Cheap: Price Increase - mrs.tinsley - 10-25-2007 That's pretty lame of them, what's the point of advertising low "cheap" names if they're just planning on raising the price? kinda rude. NameCheap not that Cheap: Price Increase - berlinlife06 - 10-27-2007 OK, I understand when the milk goes up in price. When the clothes have higher prices... but names... virtual stuff for that matter... I find it ridiculous! They should not increas prices on something that is actually just a registration thing.... It is not that simple, they do have rising price themselves. Do you think thier employees never want raises? Or the computers never need replaced and the office space rental goes up and so on. That get hit by price raises also and they have to pass it on or eventually start losing money themselves. But yeah it sucks..... It's a shame when prices go up but if you are buying something you truly want, its worth it. NameCheap not that Cheap: Price Increase - berlinlife06 - 10-28-2007 I didn't think of the "other" non virtual things related with a company. Still, maybe with the increase in prices, there should be improvement of services so the consumer would keep being faithful to companies. NameCheap not that Cheap: Price Increase - Grace - 10-29-2007 Everyone loves better customer service if you can get it. Price increases reflect the cost of living and business expenses and should be expected. Name Cheap ain't so cheap anymore ! Ha! Then again, people generally expect a lot and don't care anyway. What I don't understand is what's "rude" about that, given that Namecheap has notified users in every possible way of their upcoming price increases. Aside from Go Daddy, Moniker and perhaps a few others, how many do you see informing their users of such, although the higher-priced ones don't have to do so necessarily? As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Ultimately you'll decide if the price you paid, especially if it's "cheap", is worth it or not. |
