Domain Newbie Here, All Help and Suggestions GREATLY Appreciated! - stradman - 02-24-2009

Hi,

Just a quick story to let you know how I got into domaining. First let me tell you that I have trying FOREVER to try to find a way to make money online. About 9 months ago I bought the domain name HeavyVideoGames.com. I don't even remember why I did it. Anyway, about a month ago I put it up for sale on Sedo and within about a week someone offered me 100 dollars for it. After I got that offer I was going nuts (pretty pathetic isn't it?) I was so excited that I finally made money online!! I didn't accept the offer but put it up for auction instead and it ended up selling for 210.00!! That was initally only a 10 dollar investment! I was so excited. So now I have taken the money and bought a few more domain names but I want to be able to sell them as quickly as possible. Anybody have any suggestions as to where and how to sell them the fastest? I will sell them anywhere and to anyone as long as I can turn at least a 20 dollar profit per name.

Thank you very much for all suggestions and help!

If you want to operate in the lower end of the domaining market there's also the Namecheap Marketplace. The domain name has to be registered with Namecheap and the process is seamless, once you add it to the Marketplace the buyer buys it like they would a normal domain at Namecheap, payment and transfer is taken care of by Namecheap. The maximum you can sell a domain for at the Namecheap Marketplace is $250 and Namecheap takes 10% of the sale price. But you can pick up a new domain for $9.69 (a monthly coupon to buy a domain for $8.81 - 88 cents off - is usually available). You can still make a tidy profit at Namecheap. Namecheap also allows you to accept different offers on your domain if you are the negotiating type.

Stradman, also don't forget that Namecheap allows you to easily create A and CNAME records (left hand menu under host management – All Host Records – you have to use Namecheap’s DNS to see the menu – if you moved your nameservers to your website host then you have to transfer the DNS back to Namcheap: also in the menu on your left hand side) if you want to park your domain with Google Adsense for Domains as this is my low-end strategy while I'm waiting for a domain to sell in the Marketplace. The Adsense revenue generated gets added to my overall Adsense account from my other websites which has Adsense on them.

I wrote a comprehensive article on my blog on how to setup Adsense for Domains using Namecheap as your DNS provider. Regardless of where your domain name is registered.

The article can be read here:

What amazes me is that somebody bought "HeavyVideoGames.com" in a hope to resell it probably or make money from parking. there's still nothing there.

P.S.: the article on namecheap is quite interesting, I might try it
