For those who love to brag, what is the best price you've ever gotten for a domain, and could you have gotten even more?

I am curious to find out just in general what the average price for a domain is, too. Then I can be even more impressed with your take.

This should be quite interesting! I hope some brave sole with share this information to inspire the rest of us. It must be possible to strike gold here and there in this business.

Wouldn't it depend on many different factors? I mean, I might get a certain amount for a somewhat inactive domain yet someone with an active one would be able to brag about a far higher amount.

I have seen them as low as $10 and as high as $5000. But, it is hard to pinpoint an average. It depends so much on how developed the site is and the topic.

Really? I can't believe that simply staking a claim on a name could bring in as much as 5 grand. That's pretty amazing and makes me want to get creative and grabby. Smile

No doubt! I think it isn't as easy as that, though. There must be more to it than just owning a name. Development likely plays a big part, as well Smile

I agree that there must be development of the site before. You usually have to put forth some great effort and hard work before expecting the big payoff. That is true in life beause the fruits of our labors are easily seen after a period of time.

I hadn't considered the development aspect. I, in my newbie thinking, assumed that buying up domain names was kind of like gambling in that you buy up a bunch of what you anticipate will be valuable domains in the hopes that somebody wants them really bad. Naive I now know.

I am cheap, I would not pay more than $10 dollars for a site unless it was absolutely essential that I have a certain name.
