No longer allowed to smoke in France

UPDATE:

A World Smoke -Free

England Quits Smoking
If you're a smoker and you've already planned your trip to England this summer, you might want to think twice about bringing your cigarettes, pipes, or cigars along. Starting July 1, 2007 it will be illegal to smoke in enclosed public places throughout England. The U.K. ban follows Italy, Norway, Ireland, Sweden and other countries that have instituted bans on smoking in public places.

While millions of Britons are applauding the move, bar and pub owners here are fearing the worst -- the loss of a loyal smoking clientele. Many pub owners are opening up unenclosed areas for smokers outside their establishments. Others are reaching out to different types of customers, including families.

Smokers who think they can flout the law and light up in a banned area should be prepared to pay a £50 fine. Heftier fines -- up to £2,500 -- will be levied against pub or restaurant owners who permit smoking in banned areas.

Either that or everyone is going to pick up chewing tobacco. Then we will have to wade through that crap on the street. I hope this doesnt offend anyone, but they should outlaw THAT before they do anything else! EWWWWWWW!

For everyone who wants to smoke in public in france... well now you cant as of today. It's now illegal in order to promote a healthier population. This has raised a lot of debate in France, paticularly about the role of the government in legislating over personal freedom.
There is a 68 Euro fine for anyone smoking.

Also, the eiffel tower will be "turned off" tonight in order to promote "environmental awareness". A large proportion of the french population is also expected to turn off theiir lights and electrical devices at 7:50pm for a short amount of time.

Plastic bags will be banned soon.

Pretty big steps if you ask me

Zach

yeah sounds pretty crazy - but they made a law in some parts of germany against smoking in all types of bars, clubs etc. a couple weeks ago - not even in smokers lounges you're allowed to smoke ... and now it seems that a lot of bars ( cigar lounges etc... ) have to close cause they made a living off of it . It's actually crazy though because they government is making crazy cash from tabacco taxes ( i believe also in france ) - ... however ... it's a crazy world

I think that would be a great idea.
Me, myself, don't smoke.
You can contribute to the anti-pollution campaign, and you prevent yourself from unwanted illness. ^_^
