A good generic domain name can be a valuable asset and seasonal addresses are also a savvy investment, one industry expert has suggested.
A spokesman for Pipex said this week that there can often be sudden surges in demand for effective domain names and added generic addresses purchased ahead of seasonal periods such as Christmas are a good example of this.
"We do notice seasonal changes in demand for domain names ⦠most good festive-related names, like Christmas.co.uk, are already registered [and can] cost a lot of money," he said.
He added that a number of similar web addresses, such as ChristmasGifts.co.uk and ChristmasBreaks.co.uk have recently hit the auction market and that registrations for these types of generic domains can rise significantly at this time of year.
Last month, TheHostingNews.com reported that Christmas.co.uk attracted around 14 bids and reached $27,000 USD at a recent Sedo auction but failed to make its reserve price.
