You cannot register .XXX yet. And if you are not in the adult biz or have trademarks you will need to wait till the landrush. Landrush willbe dec 6th if all does not get delayed. The EU is not too happy about this extension is joining forces with the US to get this dropped. Doubt they will be able todo it but delay's may be in order.

dot shop... This is a generic term and cannot apply for the new gTLD application yet. First round is only for brands (sony, canon, apple, ibm) and geo locations (paris , hamburg, nyc etc),
